Shedding Off The Chinese New Year Pounds With Yoga
Have you been indulging in the guilty pleasures of snacking and stuffing yourself full over your Chinese New Year reunions? Well, if you are looking to shed off all that excess pounds you have gained over this festive season, we have got just the right yoga poses for you to target those stubborn love handles and burn calories with ease.
Warrior 2
Begin this pose by facing the front edge of your mat with your arms stretched out to each side in a wide stance, almost as if you are doing a stagnant jumping jack with your feet matching each hand's distance. Then, turn your right foot and knee to the front of the mat while bending your right knee to stack it over your right toes like a lunge. Finally, press your left thigh bone back while releasing your tailbone, continuing to inhale and exhale gently.
Boat Pose
Start by sitting on your mat and extending your legs forward. Then bend your knees and lift them off the yoga mat almost like an in and out ab crunch. Ensure your heels are parallel to the floor and extend your arms towards your feet making sure they are parallel as well and hold this position for at least 30 seconds to feel the burn!
Plank Pose
Just like this position’s name, you may start this pose by dropping into a plank position and push up to stand on all fours then slowly step your feet back with your heels pointing toward the ceiling and strengthen your arms as if you were about to do a push up. Finally, engage the core and hold this position for at least 30 seconds.
Side Plank Pose
This pose is another variation of the infamous plank, you are going to start by doing the last plank pose and tilt your body to the left or right whilst stacking your feet above one another, raise the opposite arm in the air and hold this position for at least 30 seconds to reap the fat burning benefits. Once the pose is successfully completed, return to a downward dog pose and repeat this entire list of yoga poses for 5 rounds a day.
