Move Forward, Get Motivated And Be Inspired

by Dhanya Parameswaran | 22 Dec 2021

“Forget the past, just keep moving forward”, a phrase so loosely used by society today to brush off and neglect their emotions in order to pull through the challenges they have encountered throughout the day.

In light of preparing you to move forward into the new year with good vibes only, we have a list of motivation regimes for you to bring up the drive and get started again.

1. Set Small Goals

We understand the need to be an exceptional staff, athlete or student among your peers; however, it is also important to prioritize your physical and mental wellbeing to avoid burnout and losing motivation over major goals. Let us take a step back together and break down our goals into smaller, manageable and more realistically-attainable goals. For example, if your goal was to cycle 20km for a triathlon, start by cycling 2km everyday and gradually increase over time in preparation for the event.

2. Make time and space

It is only natural to lose motivation when we are convinced that we simply do not have the time to attain our goals when we are constantly being bombarded with work and other responsibilities throughout the day. Focus on learning how to manage your time wisely through discipline and your willpower to get things done. Manage your to-do list and get rid of the tasks that are not essential at that particular time.

3. Practice Self-Care

This goes without saying that you should prioritize your spiritual, mental, and physical well-being in order to regain your cause and motivation to move forward. Sleep deprivation, a poor diet, and lack of leisure time could make ploughing through your day more difficult. Plan out a healthy self-care regime that includes exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and water and most importantly, making me-time for leisure activities.

4. Reward yourself for working

Taking a short break in between your work or assignments is vital. Create a small window of opportunity to reward yourself with. By focusing on the reward, you are more inclined to reach your goals because there will be something for you to look forward to. For example, you have successfully written a 2 page-long peer review hence take a 10-minute break to walk around your office and away from the blinding lights of your devices.
