ORGANIC VS NATURAL
We often hear from our families and friends that organic and natural products are always good for us and have all kind of health benefits. But WHAT ON EARTH ARE ORGANIC AND NATURAL? Some people around me also tend to confuse between organic and natural.
The word “organic” refers to how the farmers grow and process agricultural products. Organic farming practices encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution. In other word, those farmers do not use conventional methods such as synthetic additives like pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and dyes to fertilize or control weeds and insects.
You may have seen the above logo quite often. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) established an organic certification programme that requires all organic food in the US to meet their strict standards.
100% Organic
- Made entirely from organic materials
Organic
- At least 95% organic materials, with remaining ingredients that are approved by USDA.
Made With Organic Ingredients
- At least 70% organic ingredients and can display 3 organic ingredients on the label. Cannot use the organic seal.
Non-Organic
- If less than 70% organic ingredients, cannot be labeled as organic or use the USDA organic seal.
As for natural products, there is no formal definition. Natural food products usually do not contain artificial or synthetic colours, flavours and preservatives. Those natural foods are often assumed to be minimally processed.
So usually organic and natural products are MORE PRICEY due to their expensive farming practices and low percentage of artificial ingredients. We understand that! That is why we do our best to get healthier alternative of food products at lower price and share the goodness with all of you!
