How To Increase Your Fruit Intake?

by Stefanie | 4 Aug 2020

It’s no secret that fruits are an essential part of your diet. Also known as nature’s very own candy, they’re incredibly nutritious and great for your overall wellbeing.

But, just how much fruits should you actually be getting in daily?

Research has shown that you need an average of 5-9 servings of fruits daily. Though experts have said that 10 servings of fruits each day reap the greatest health benefits. Now, I know what you’re thinking… that’s an absurd amount! But it’s actually easier than you think. Here are 5 ways on increasing your fruit intake daily:

1. Incorporate into your breakfast.

Start your day right by eating your breakfast like a champ! Fruits not only brighten your day from its colours but also give you that instant boost of energy to carry on with your day. Include at least 1 fruit into your breakfast such as by eating a banana or dipping some strawberries in yoghurt.

2. Prepare it for on-the-go.

We usually resort to a pack of chips when we’re getting that pesky snack craving. We totally get it. Who wouldn’t? It’s so convenient and easily accessible with minimal preparation! But, it’s not the best for our health. To ease your intake of fruits, set out a day a week to wash and cut up your fruits and store it so you can easily grab it to-go.

3. Spice up your salads.

Salads are so much more than just leafy greens. Fruits not only add a pop of colour to a plain ol’ bowl of salad but also add loads of fibre and antioxidants! Berries, apples and mandarin oranges make a great addition to your salad.

4. Make yourself fruit juice/smoothies.

Sure, you need to get in your caffeine fix every morning. But, did you know that fresh fruit juice boosts your concentration and alertness throughout the day? Citrus juices are packed with vitamin C, minerals and flavonoids that aid in this. Not-to-mention, they’re incredibly easy to prepare too! Personally, we love adding in some yoghurt for a creamy consistency and protein boost!

5. Snack on some dried fruits.

Eating fruits just on its own can get pretty bland so we recommend you try out different ways of eating fruit. Our personal favourite is dried fruits! Here at Signature Market, we have a huge selection of dried fruits that you would absolutely love. From Thai Dried Mango and Mini Sun Dried Apricots to more exotic varieties like Dried Passion Fruit Slice and Premier Harvest Sun Dried Kiwi, we’ve got your needs covered!
