The First Challenge of Life: Solid Foods

by Putri | 17 Oct 2019

Having a baby in the family is a happiness for all, especially for the parents. Normally, new-born will receive breastmilk since the day they born. In the baby’s development stage in the first year, breastmilk is the most important food in your baby’s diet. An exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months without other fluids nor solids and then continued by introducing solid foods along with breastfeeding for 2 years is recommended by The World Health Organization, as both mom and baby are desire. According to Australian Breastfeeding Association (2018), breastfeed your baby for 6 months will keep your baby’s first year of life a good health, minimize the risk of infections and your own risk of getting breast cancer.

New Challenges
However, when the baby’s age is reach at 6 months old, solid foods are complementary to introduce to the baby to cover the nutrients which are not provided by breastmilk, which is beneficial on the growth and development of the little one. Introducing solid foods to baby might be a new experience for the both baby and mother. Instead of replacing the breastmilk, it is all about the taste, texture and new skills.

Baby: “I am ready Mom!”
Therefore, do not be stress mom. To know whether our little one is ready for solid foods, there are several visible signs that we can use as a guide to observe:

Most moms will wonder what kind of solid foods to feed their little one. The first food introduced must be smooth, mashed, or in the soft pieces. However, as your baby grows, variety of textures and tastes are required for our baby’s growth and development, especially in hand-eye coordination or motor skills (pinch and pick up food by fingers), developing their chewing skills, and learn the variety of foods (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). In addition, introducing solid foods to the little one encourages self-feeding. Moreover, wheat or multigrain cereal is highly recommended to introduced to baby as it is the most common food that is firstly being introduced to the baby (Porto, 2017).

In Signature Market, we have Multigrain Baby Cereal Puffs with variety of flavours, whereby your baby can explore multiple choices of taste. Furthermore, Multigrain Baby Cereals Puffs in Signature Market are good for teething, as it has unique shape and suit for our little baby’s hand grip. Lastly, you also can serve it as porridge just by soak it in your preferable milk or you can serve as it is to your baby.
